Focus on Sustainability

Here at Bristol, we understand how important it is to be responsible and treat the world around us with respect. We go to great lengths to ensure that our impact on the environment is minimized as much as possible, and always take into account our impact on the world around us in all of our actions. Below are several examples of ongoing programs or simple standards we adhere to in our effort to live a sustainable life.

Natural Living

In order to maintain a better harmony with the world around us, it is essential that we remember that we are as much a product of the environment as it is a product of our actions. As such, we attempt to maintain as natural of lifestyles as possible while still utilizing and making available critical modern technologies (such as electricity, internet, etc…). Although we not currently officially certified as such, Bristol does practice a wholly organic methodology for growing all produce, raises all livestock in as natural a manner as possible while maintaining the safety of the animals, and cares for the property without using fertilizers, sprays, and other harmful modern “improvements” to home care.

As with anything else, our lifestyle is a work in progress. There are still many aspects of Bristol life that we can and will refine to simplify and naturalize. We cannot promise we are the best at it, or that we are even up to your expectations. All we can promise is that we will do all we can to keep moving forward.

Organic Agriculture

Through an ongoing partnership with several established local organic farming ventures, Bristol has worked very hard to cultivate a small portion of the property for organically growing produce. This project is still in it’s infant stage, as we hope to obtain official organic certification and expand our agricultural operations over the coming years.

We currently have just under an acre of land dedicated to growing a variety of produce such as peppers, pumpkins, squash, and a variety of herbs and spices. This land is lovingly cared for on a daily basis by the Bristol residents, and we expect to post updated information about our yield to our social media pages on a regular basis.

Animals at Bristol

The Bristol community is inhabited by more than its human residents – we also maintain a healthy population of animal residents as well, including chickens, goats, cats, dogs, ducks, geese, pigeons, turkeys, and various wild visitors. The animals are raised humanely and are given freedom to roam the property as needed. All feed is organic and based on sound understanding of animal dietary needs. We truly consider each and every one of them a member of the community and a friend.

Special Projects

Bristol Residents are actively encouraged to and regularly pursue projects that relate to sustainability, such as renewable energy implementations, sustainable renovations to Bristol property, and changes to processes that reduce impact and energy usage. Not all of these projects produce the expected result, or any measurable result at all in some cases, but each is a learning experience and knowledge to be built upon in later projects. Several examples of past projects include a geothermal energy generator, a solar energy generator, and a composting toilet system!
